Italy’s world-famous sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote that the Champions League will be transformed into a 36-team league format starting from the 2024-2025 season. It is stated that the decision in question will be submitted to the federations by UEFA on Tuesday and will be approved in April.

HERE IS THE DETAILS OF THE NEW FORMAT
According to the information in the news; 36 teams will be divided into 4 different categories according to the UEFA ranking. The teams will play 10 matches with their rivals in both the same category and different categories. At the end of the league, where 10 matches, 5 home and 5 away, will be played, the first 8 teams in the overall score ranking will directly receive the second round ticket, while the other 8 teams will get the second round ticket. The teams eliminated in the play-off stage will continue their way in the UEFA Europa League.

MORE BIGGER TEAMS TO JOIN
Since the last 16 rounds, all matches will be played in the classic format of the Champions League. While UEFA aims to play more big games with this new format, it is stated that more teams from 5 major leagues, especially the Premier League, will participate in the new Giants League.

Teams participating in the tournament will be able to play a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 17 matches. The increase in the number of participants will meet the demands of the clubs to play more matches. Authorities are concerned that this expansion will lower the attractiveness of the tournament.
