Pierre Webo: I am grateful to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Sebastian Coltescu, the fourth referee of the Paris Saint-Germain – Başakşehir match played in France in the last week of the Champions League Group H, made racist statements to Webo, the assistant coach of the orange-navy blue, and the match was abandoned. Pierre Webo published a statement regarding this incident on social media.

Webo stated the following in his message:

“We had a sad event for humanity in the match we played with Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League. I thank the Başakşehir family, who reacted to the racist word used to me and showed a clear stance and did not come to the field. Racism is never acceptable, people cannot be separated according to their skin color.
I am grateful to our club president Göksel Gümüşdağ who stood behind us with endless support and to our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who made us feel that he was with us from the first moment.

I hope December 8 will be a turning point in racism and such incidents of discrimination will not happen again. Many thanks to everyone who gave their support by calling and texting after the sad incident that night.
My last word to our fans: I’m glad you’re here. “
