In the accident that brought the hearts of the spectators to their mouths, the apprentice (jockey apprentice) Harun Çanakçı, who was riding on Damaris, one of the British thoroughbreds, and the apprentice named Kuanpo, who came right after him, Vedat Abiş, and the jockey of the horse named Beykoz, who turned the corner at the farthest, rolled on the sand.

While Hisman Çizik and Vedat Abiş stood up after the accident, Harun Çanakçı remained motionless on the ground. Scratch and Abiş rushed to Çanakçı’s aid. Çanakçı, who was taken to the hospital unconscious with the ambulance, was discharged after 3 days of treatment.

When I saw Harun on the ground after the scratch, I jumped next to him, he was shaking. There was sand in his mouth and his tongue was in his throat. I pulled out his tongue, albeit hard. He was unconscious and bit his tongue involuntarily. Even though it was difficult, I opened his mouth and put his tongue back in and then he started to breathe. He said God forgave him to his loved ones.

Jokey Hisman Çizik was summoned to the Council of Stewards, where he was punished for violating the rules in the previous race days. Officials of the Council of Stewards thanked Çizik for intervening and saving his friend’s life.
