Sofia Kenin, the last champion in women’s singles and 4th seed, won the second round by beating Australian’s Maddison Ingliss 7-5 and 6-4, 2-0.
5th seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina left Czech Marie Bouzkova out of the tournament with sets 6-3 and 7-6.
Last year’s finalist and 14th seeded Spanish Garbine Muguruza, Russian Margarita Gasparyan 6-4 and 6-0 sets 2-0, 11 seeded Swiss Belinda Bencic also USA’s Lauren Davis 6-3, 4- They beat 2-1 with the sets of 6 and 6-1.
World number 61 Jessica Pegula signed the surprise result of the morning session. The American athlete made his name in the second round by defeating the champion of 2012 and 2013, 12 seeded Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, 7-5 and 6-4.
