Early farewell to the Australian Open from Bianca Andreescu and Petra Kvitova

Women’s 8th seed Bianca Andreescu and 9th seed Petra Kvitova were eliminated in round 2 at the season’s first grand slam tennis tournament at the Australian Open.

Most of the matches in the morning session on the 3rd day of the tournament held in Melbourne were completed.

Hsieh Su-wei, in the 71st place of the women’s world rankings, beat Andreescu, whom he faced in the 2nd round, with sets of 6-3 and 6-2, pushing the 8th seed out of the tournament.

World number 68 Sorana Cirstea scored another unexpected result of the 2nd round. Cirstea eliminated the 2019 finalist and 9th seed Kvitova with a score of 2-1 (6-4, 1-6, 6-1).

In women, Aryna Sabalenka (7th seed), 7-time winner Serena Williams (10) and last year’s finalist Garbine Muguruza (14) beat their opponents 2-0 and advanced to the third round.

2014 CHAMPION WAWRINKA ATTACHED TO FUCSOVICS

The fight between Marton Fucsovics, number 55 of the men’s classification, and 17-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka, witnessed great excitement. Fucsovics, who won the match that lasted 4 hours 3-2 (7-5, 6-1, 4-6, 2-6, 7-6), got his name written in the third round.

Last year’s finalist and 3rd seed Dominic Thiem beat world 70th Dominik Koepfer 3-0 with sets of 6-4, 6-0 and 6-2 to make the tour.

Seeded 8 Diego Schwartzman, seed 11 Denis Shapovalov and seed 14 Milos Raonic also continued on their way.
