Gael Monfils and Angelique Kerber bid farewell to the Australian Open in the first round

Most of the matches in the morning session were completed on the first day of the tournament held in Melbourne.

Emil Ruusuvuori, 86th place in the men’s world rankings, defeated 10th seed Monfils and advanced to the second round of the Australian Open, where he made his first main table match. The 21-year-old won the game 3-2 with sets of 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, 3-6 and 6-3 in the 4-hour battle.

Last year’s finalist and 3rd seed Dominic Thiem beat world 90th world champion Mikhail Kukushkin 3-0 (7-6, 6-2, 6-3) to make the lap.

In men, 6th seed Alexander Zverev, 14th seed Milos Raonic, 2014 champion and 17 seed Stanislas Wawrinka also marked their names in the 2nd round.

EARLY FUTURE FROM 2016 CHAMPION KERBER

Bernarda Pera, number 66 of women’s classification, pushed 2016 champion and 23rd seed Angelique Kerber out of the tournament in the first round with a score of 2-0 (6-0, 6-4).

The 2019 champion and 3rd seed Naomi Osaka got the 2nd round ticket, beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the 39th place of the world rankings with 2-0 (6-1, 6-2).

Along with the 10 seed Serena Williams, who won the Australian Open 7 times, 15 seed Iga Swiatek and 19 seed Marketa Vondrousova continued their way, beating their rivals.
