Players from Beşiktaş and İttifak Holding Konyaspor took to the field with purple glasses for the “Look Awareness Campaign for Epilepsy”, which was launched by the Turkish Epilepsy Association on February 8, World Epilepsy Day.
In the 24th week of the Super League, Beşiktaş and İttifak Holding Konyaspor competed at Vodafone Park. The players of the two teams supported individuals with epilepsy from the field by wearing purple glasses, the symbol of the Look For Epilepsy Campaign. To draw attention to the prejudices that individuals with epilepsy have to struggle with, the players, “Epilepsy Is #WhatAlakasıVar!” said.
The Turkish Epilepsy Association has been conducting the Look Awareness Campaign for Epilepsy for 5 years in order to break down the prejudices in society regarding epilepsy. Aiming to raise awareness in all segments of the society every year on World Epilepsy Day, the main discourse of the project this year is ‘# NeAlakasıVar!’. Players from Beşiktaş and İttifak Holding Konyaspor provided significant support by not being indifferent to the great difficulties faced by 1 million people with epilepsy in our country, from getting married to working due to prejudices, in all areas of social life. With the unconditional support of UCB Pharma of the Turkish Epilepsy Association, the Look Awareness Campaign for Epilepsy, which was first implemented on World Epilepsy Day in 2017, has entered its 5th year this year. The Look for Epilepsy Awareness Campaign aims to raise awareness that individuals with epilepsy can continue their lives, read, work, marry, have children and achieve successful jobs like everyone else. According to the 2021 results of the Epilepsy Awareness Research; 5 million citizens still believe that epilepsy is contagious in our country. 1 out of every 5 people says ‘If I were an employer, I would not want to hire an individual with epilepsy’. 2 out of 5 people do not want their relatives to marry a person with epilepsy. There are still 3 million people who believe that epilepsy is a haunted disease. 1 out of every 2 people do not know how to intervene in the person who has epileptic seizures.
The Turkish Epilepsy Association invited everyone to be a part of awareness by taking their own photo using the # PurpleGlasses filter on the Look For Epilepsy Instagram page and posting them on their social media accounts with the hashtags # EpilepsiİçinBak and # NeAlakasıVar.
