In Sakarya, former football player and deputy FETO fugitive Hakan Sukur‘s father Selmet Şükür was sentenced to 3 years, 1 month and 15 days in prison for “aiding Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ)”.

The defendant Selmet Şükür did not attend the hearing at the Sakarya 4th High Criminal Court.

The lawyers of the defendants, who took the floor at the hearing, stated that they did not agree with the opinion of the public prosecutor and stated that the anonymous witness, which is one of the basic grounds of the criminal charge, could not be brought to the court and was removed from the witness protection program.

The attorneys of the lawyers who said that no criminal element was found in the reports submitted to the court about their clients from the relevant authorities, argued that the only reason for Selmet Şükür’s trial was his son, Hakan Şükür, and demanded the acquittal of the defendant and the removal of the measure on his assets.

PENALTY FOR ASSISTANCE TO THE ORGANIZATION

Announcing its decision, the court committee decided that although the defendant was charged with “membership in a terrorist organization”, his actions were within the scope of “aiding the organization” and sentenced Selmet Şükür to 3 years, 1 month and 15 days in prison.

MEASURE ON ASSETS REMOVED

Deciding to reject the request for the confiscation of the assets of the defendant, the delegation decided to lift the precautionary measures on Şükür’s assets.
